Who are “women of color”?

At Wōcc, “women of color” refers to Black, Indigenous, Latina, Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, and other women.

We use the term not as a demographic label, but as a political and cultural identity rooted in solidarity, healing, and justice.

Too often, women of color are pressured to assimilate into dominant white supremacist culture — beginning with indoctrination in the school system and reinforced later through standards of “professionalism.”

Many of us eventually recognize that we’ve been living on auto-pilot, adopting ways of thinking, acting, and being that society has taught us without ever asking: Who decided this is normal? And who benefits when we conform?

Please note that Wōcc is a women of color-led practice, but our services are available to all women. Wōcc does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, or socioeconomic status. We are committed to creating an inclusive and affirming space for all.

Land & Labor Recognition

We acknowledge that much of our work takes place on the territory and ancestral lands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations. We also acknowledge our debt to enslaved Africans, whose labor and suffering built and grew the economy and infrastructure of a nation that refuses to recognize our humanity.
